Baby iPood Onesie

For Christmas we got a few Christmas gifts for our baby due in May. From what moms tell me, our baby will be in onesies most of the time. My sister sent a version of this onesie to us and I couldn't stop laughing. She told me the store they bought it from also had one that read "I Twosied in my Onesie".

It's a Girl! ... We Think

We just had our Ultrasound at 20 weeks to determine among other things the sex of our baby. They were "almost positive" it is a girl, but said not to paint the room pink yet. Our Ultrasonographer said unless our baby is hiding it's wee wee, it is a girl. That got me thinking about how often expectant parents are told the wrong sex. I've heard so many stories about a friend of a friend, but I haven't met anyone personally that expected one sex and surprise it's the other! We're pretty much going with "it's a girl" until told otherwise!

Pregnant and Flying

'Tis the season for traveling to see loved ones over the holidays. You're may be wondering if it is safe to fly in airplanes. If you have a normal, healthy pregnancy it can be perfectly safe to fly up until about the last month of pregnancy after 36 weeks. Consult your doctor if you are a high-risk for early delivery. Other than the slight nausea you may feel if you are in your first trimester, you can rest easy that flying is safe while pregnant.

Another concern I have often read about is the cabin pressure. This is what Baby Center Expert OB-Gyn says about it:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all commercial airlines and many noncommercial planes to maintain a standard level of cabin pressure (kept at the equivalent of 5,000 to 8,000 feet, the altitude of Denver and other Rocky Mountain communities). If you're a healthy woman with no serious medical problems, you and your baby should have no trouble in a pressurized cabin.

However, because the air pressure in the cabin is less than at lower altitudes, your heart rate and blood pressure will increase to enable you to take in the oxygen you need. If you have severe anemia, sickle cell disease, a history of blood clots, or a condition called placental insufficiency, you and your baby may have trouble adapting and should avoid flying. If you have one of these conditions and must fly, you can be prescribed supplemental oxygen for use in the air. (And in case of sudden loss of cabin pressure during a flight, all commercial airliners are equipped with oxygen masks that drop down automatically.)

Flying in unpressurized small planes is a different matter. If you're cruising at 10,000 feet, for example, that's just like standing atop a 10,000-foot mountain — almost 2 miles high. Your body will have to work harder to supply you and your baby with sufficient oxygen, so it's probably wise to avoid unpressurized planes while you're pregnant.

Funny Onesies

These are hysterical! As I was looking around for baby clothes, I came across Wry Baby—a fun collection of cotton baby clothes. You have to take a look at all their designs and see what your baby would say if they could talk. They also have "super snapsuits" for the super hero in your life.

Baby's First Christmas

How exciting to be celebrating a baby's first Christmas! Red Envelope has a special baby section and I found these Baby's First Christmas pajamas. They have "My First Christmas" embroidered on the bum. I think these are a much cuter substitution to the standard Baby's First Christmas ornament you can give to your baby girl, boy, grandbaby, niece, nephew, cousin...whoever!

Baby Laundry Detergent

As a mom-to-be, I have always heard Dreft is the detergent to use for baby clothes and linens. Pregnancy & Baby Blog featured The Laundress baby detergent as another option. Although quite expensive compared to Dreft, I must say as a Graphic Designer, the packaging is incredibly cute. The Laundress gift bag pictured above would make a very cute baby shower gift.
