Crayon Rocks

My 15-month old loves using sidewalk chalk and I saw these Crayon Rocks. They will be great for her learning how to control the crayon...just as long as she doesn't try to eat them!

Nap Nanny for Babies with Reflux

The Nap Nanny has been such a relief for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Their preemie daughter has Reflux and they are finally getting more than a couple hours of sleep because of the Nap Nanny!

The Nap Nanny was designed by a mother to improve infant sleep. Parents often use a wedge to elevate their baby in an effort to get them to sleep but babies often roll off the wedge. The Nap Nanny cradles the baby more like a car seat and keeps baby at an angle, necessary for those who have Reflux.

Our daughter also had Reflux and spent most of her napping time in the bouncer. I would have liked to have the Nap Nanny so that she could have slept soundly in her crib. I can attest to the wedge not working for us. I returned it after the second time she had scooted down it and was laying flat.

I'm glad someone thought of it and it is helping my niece (and brother-in-law and sister-in-law) much needed sleep!

Shortly after my daughter was born, I started to see these ERGObaby Carriers around. I must say, I wanted one instead of my Baby Bjorn! Although, I've gotten a bit of use out of my Baby Bjorn, my daughter already seems to have outgrown it before it's 26 lb weight limit.

The ERGObaby Carrier can be worn on the front, hip and back for the different stages of your baby's growth. The ERGObaby carrier states it's ergonomic design supports a correct sitting position for the baby's hip, pelvis and spine growth. It disperses most of the baby's weight between the hips and thighs, which helps to eliminate compression of the spine when hanging by the crotch, that most other designs require. The ERGObaby also balances the baby's weight to parents' hips and shoulders, and alleviates physical stress for the parent.

The ERGObaby Carrier recommends a weight limit of 40 pounds for its carrier; however, the carrier has been tested up to 90 pounds.

Now that my daughter has started eating solids, I've found quite a few things that are helpful. This Tiny Dinner Mat from Kiddopotamus is great! I bought one from a recommendation of a friend. It has suction cups to stick to the table and cleans very easily. Lay it down on a restaurant table so that your baby's hands don't touch the dirty table and just roll it up when you are finished.

Comes in blue, pink, yellow and green. I bought mine at Babies R Us, but you can find other stores that carry it here.

Iron-On Clothing Name Tags

In preparing for my daughter to start daycare next week, I've had a long list of what to label and bring in. I tried a Sharpie and a fabric pen on some of her pants and onesies. Both have made her name look like a big blob.

I just received our latest Parents magazine and saw an ad for Stuck on You labels. You can buy Iron-On Labels or Permanent Iron-On Transfers. I just ordered some so I don't ruin the rest of her clothes with a big black blob.

Baby Sling—A Lifesaver!

I am so happy I registered for this Peanut Shell Baby Sling! Not only does my baby love it, but I love it because I can get stuff done during the day. As soon as she goes into the sling, she is out like a light! It's a lifesaver when she won't nap in her crib, bouncer, pack-n-play, or anything else I've tried. We received the Happiest Baby on the Block book as a gift, but was also told by a friend to just watch the DVD instead. I read the book and then watched the DVD. Reading the book was a waste of time—who has time to read with a newborn anyway! The DVD is definitely a must buy. Not all of it may work for your baby, but definitely worth a try to calm your fussy baby.

It's been awhile since my last blog post for a very good reason—we had our baby 11 days early! We couldn't be more ecstatic or blessed to have her in our lives. There have definitely been some changes in our lives, but all for the best.

Now that she is here, I have plenty of opinions of what has worked and not worked for us and her in these first few weeks of her life. I've just completed her baby announcement from our company, Baby Love Prints and I am excited to introduce her to the rest of our friends and family. Stay tuned for some tips and comments about products we like and dislike.

Pregnancy Body Pillow

I’ve been using the Snoogle Mini Body Pillow by Leachco since my second trimester and I couldn’t sleep without it! Unlike the other maternity body pillows I have seen, it doesn’t take up the whole bed. There are quite a few ways you can sleep with it as you move throughout your pregnancy. I particularly like it because I can put it between my legs with the higher end along my back, which prevents me from rolling onto my back in the middle of the night. It also easily converts into a nursing pillow with back and neck support post-partum!

Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter is my favorite belly butter by a landslide. It's so light and not greasy at all. Helps my tummy retain the moisture throughout the day and night. It contains cocoa butter and vitamin E. Unfortunately, no belly butter will help with stretch marks, but it can help with dry, itchy, stretching skin throughout your 9 months. Smooth on after your shower, when you're feeling tight or itchy, or bedtime. I can always find Mama Bee Belly Butter at Target or the pharmacy. I tried a couple others, but Mama Bee Belly Butter was the best!

Never Register at Target

I love Target! I could walk around that store for hours, daily. However, I've had some problems recently with baby shower items I have received. We are registered at Babies R Us and Pottery Barn Kids and I understand sometimes family and friends may not have those stores near by and shop at places closest to them. Therefore, we've gotten cute outfits and items from Target and other stores.

I'm not sure when Target changed their return policy, but they have made it very difficult to exchange items without a gift receipt or receipt. You must have a gift receipt to receive merchandise credit and the total cannot be over $20. If you do not have a receipt, you may use your ID (still cannot be over $20), but you can only do that 2 times within 365 days.

We received a cute summer outfit for our baby for 6 months. By the time she is 6 months, it will be November, so I recently tried to exchange for the 3 month size and was not allowed because I have already returned twice using my ID this year. I guess I'll have to send the outfit to a friend who can actually use it this summer.

Avoid hassle and don't register at Target or insist all gifts you receive come with a gift receipt!

Size of Baby Diapers

What size of diapers to buy for your baby-to-be is a question you may not know until your baby arrives. Plan on using plenty of diapers for your newborn, but don't overload on the newborn size. Babies that have a higher birth weight may not even fit into the smallest size at all.

Start with one package of 40 count newborn diapers if your baby weighs less than 8 pounds at birth. If you baby's birth weight is 8 pounds or more, buy the size 1 diapers.

Once you've determined what brand works best for your baby, buy in economy size. Don't buy the next size too quickly because a larger diaper costs more. Diaper companies charge the same per pack regardless of the size of the diaper, but there are fewer diapers in the package as the size gets larger.

Watch out for store sales on disposable diapers. They often put diapers on sale to entice parents to shop there. You can find good deals on brand-name diapers during these sales. Make sure to buy economy-size boxes (tend to come in counts of 68, 80, 92 and 144). Purchasing the largest economy boxes will likely save you up to ten cents per diaper!

Toddlers & Up: Yawn. Do it first and have your child imitate you yawning

Safety 1st has designed a safer baby gate for parents. The Curve gate is the first of its kind to allow you to stand firmly on the top step. This is extremely helpful when carrying a baby in your arms and you must balance on the step while bending over to open the gate. What a great concept! Looks like the only place to buy it now is Babies "R" Us.
